In 1990, volunteer providers founded Turner House Clinic Inc. to provide access to quality health care for uninsured children in Wyandotte County, KS. Over 28 years, we evolved from a volunteer clinic to a paid-provider practice and achieved recognition by the NCQA as a level 3, PCMH.
In 2016, the leadership of Turner House, the University of Kansas Health System and KU Health Partners began transitioning their respective safety net clinics to a Federally Qualified Health Center Look Alike (FQHC-LAL) model under the legal entity of Turner House Clinic Inc. in order to improve sustainability, access and outcomes. Turner House received FQHC-LAL designation in December 2017.
Effective January 1, 2018, the Silver City Health Center and KU Pediatrics Clinic at Children’s Campus Kansas City merged into Turner House operations. The Board re-branded the merged organization as Vibrant Health – Wyandotte Neighborhood Clinics with 50 employees serving three clinic locations: Central (zip code 66102), Argentine (zip code 66106) and Children’s Campus (zip code 66101).
In September, 2019, Vibrant Health hit another tremendous milestone when the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) designated the health center as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
The mission of Vibrant Health is to provide access to respectful, empowering, culturally sensitive and appropriate high quality health care for the community, regardless of socio-economic obstacles. We pursue this mission through the delivery of equitable, “whole” person care for children and adults. In addition to primary medical, dental and behavioral health services, Vibrant Health provides community outreach services; school-based preventive oral health services; and starting this school year, school-based behavioral health services. As a merged organization of three previously stand-alone safety net clinics, Vibrant Health uses an enterprise-wide electronic health record and billing system and an annually updated, Board approved quality improvement plan to achieve better health, better care and lower costs through an evidence-based practice model. The Vibrant Health quality assurance program ensures compliance with federal requirements, PCMH performance standards, outcome measures and a three-year strategic plan. The emerging Vibrant Health culture, including adoption of trauma informed care principles, is a foundation for continuous improvement of quality practices and patient engagement to benefit the health and well-being of patients and the community.
